Inquiry Question Evaluation

This unit will delve into the usage of one or multiple point perspectives to create the illusion of depth on a blank sheet of paper.

Intent sentence

I'm curious about the different techniques that make it possible to create a perspective accurate and visually stunning piece.

Day 1 Notes

Day 1: Perspective drawing

The first day, we followed Ms. Shamburek's lesson, which made us practice the basics of perspective drawing, like the horizon line, vanishing point, vanishing lines, and one-point perspective.

On day 1, the main focus was to proportionately transcribe my horizon line from my picture and plot my different vanishing points and lines. Once I had those, I could begin transforming those basic shapes into definable objects of my composition. All of this drawing is really light in pencil. Then, the following day, I added all the fine details to my drawing. With that, the pencil stage was done, and now, using a ballpoint pen, I could start creating textures of each individual area and object of my composition.

Artist: Joaquin Escalante

Title: Father

Size: 20 x 20 cm

Date of Completion: March 31, 2026

Why: Because an activity that my dad and I enjoy doing together is going to sailing regattas, and the location of this picture is the one we frequent the most in El Huracán (My father's sailboat). With this picture, I want to show appreciation for the quality father-son time I spend with my dad.

Section 6: Communicate and reflect

In hindsight, this unit has been another great step-stool to improving individual skills that all artists must have. Perspective and texturing are two pivotal skills because they can make an image come to life, pop out of the page. And throughout this unit, I can definitely say that once again I've impressed myself and left my comfort zone(A common trend for me in this class). For starters, before this unit, you would've never spotted me using a pen, even less an ink pen, but with this unit, I've managed to once again beat the fear of messing up. Regardless of that, I still feel I didn't use enough variety in the pen selection, but to be fair, it's one of my first times using it, and I am really happy with the result, using mostly ball-point pens. Going to another topic, the submission time, I feel I've procrastinated like always, but this time I think I've had more of an excuse because of the online classes caused by the fuel crisis; we had a really summative assessment-packed week, which I do commend Ms. Shamburek for extending the due date, but I still didn't manage to submit my website on time wich is entirely my bad(Hooray for the grace period). Well, overall, I have enjoyed this unit, but not as much as the top-tier ones. I don't know, this unit just didn't give that spark that the other one gave me to work for eight hours straight on a drawing. Still, I enjoyed it a lot, especially because of the picture I was drawing. With nothing else to say other than thank you, Miss Shamburek, for helping me throughout the process with videos and whatnot, I conclude this reflection.
